Saturday, 27 APRIL 2024 | my uttarakhand news | DEHRADUN In what can be termed as a shock to lakhs of electricity consumers, the power tariffs in the State have been raised. The consumers will now have to shell out seven per cent more money to pay their electricity bills. The new tariff plan was declared by the Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission (UREC) on Friday. Informing about the new tariff plan, the officiating chairperson of the UERC, ML Prasad said that an increase of 25 paise per unit has been made for consumers using up to 100 units of electricity. For the domestic consumers using 101 to 200 units of electricity, an increase of 30 paise per unit and for 201 to 400 units an increase of 40 paise per unit has been done. He added that there is no increase for the 4.5 lakh BPL users. Similarly, there is no increase in fixed charges. Prasad said that rebate for the solar water heater will be Rs 75 per 50 litres. It is pertinent to mention here that the Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) had demanded an increase of 23 to 27 per cent in the power tariffs in the State. The corporation had said that the power tariffs needed to be revised since it had to spend a sum of Rs 1,281 on purchase of power. Before announcing new tariffs the UERC had held consultations with all stakeholders in public hearings.
