PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE /Dehradun A domestic help drugged three members of a Bhartiya Janta Party councillor’s family including her and fled with cash and jewellery from their house in Vasant Vihar area of Dehradun, police said on Wednesday. The superintendent of police (City) Shekhar Suyal said that the domestic help Bharat Thapa had been hired about 25 days ago for household work from a Delhi based agency through an online platform. Suyal said that BJP councillor Amita Singh’s daughter living in Delhi had hired the domestic help. “The police are also investigating whether the agency is certified or not,” he added. In CCTV camera footage examined two people were seen coming into the house, who are associates of Thapa. “The domestic help mixed an intoxicating substance in the food or drink served to the family at night. The BJP councillor Singh, her husband Mahipal Singh and their son Shubham consumed it and later fell unconscious,” Suyal said. The accused allegedly took advantage of the situation and searched the cupboards in the house. He then fled with cash and gold and silver jewellery, according to the police. The exact value of the stolen property is yet to be assessed. The condition of the three family members deteriorated later. They were taken to Synergy Hospital in Dehradun, where they were undergoing treatment. The Vasant Vihar police registered a case on the complaint of Mahipal Singh at Vasant Vihar police station. The police have formed teams to trace the accused. They are checking CCTV footage and the mobile number used by him. Records from the online platform are also being examined. The police are also checking whether the domestic help’s identity documents and background were properly verified before he was hired.
