Gajendra Singh Negi | Dehradun Nearly 23 years after it created a political storm in the State, the infamous Jenny case appears to have returned to haunt the politics of Uttarakhand. Following allegations and counter- allegations between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress leaders, a video of Jenny appeared in the social media on Wednesday in which she expressed her frustration at the fact the leaders are using her name for petty politics. She also threatened to expose more facts in the old case soon. Jenny said that her name is being unnecessarily dragged and is being denigrated. “I was only 16-17 years old when it happened. I was threatened then and in all these years no one asked about my wellbeing. People should not get engaged in petty politics,’’ she said. Following the recent Nyay Yatras undertaken by the opposition Congress demanding justice for Ankita Bhandari, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami attacked the Congress by reminding it about the Jenny case and infamous Tandoor case both of which involved Congress leaders. He said that the Congress should answer questions about incidents that occurred during its own term. Reacting to the comment of the CM, the chairperson of the Election Management Committee of Uttarakhand Congress, Harak Singh Rawat said that when his name figured in the Jenny case, he resigned as a minister and had sought Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe in the case and the probe exonerated him. Things escalated further when the president of Uttarakhand BJP Mahendra Bhatt demanded that the identity of the Jenny’s child’s father should be made public. Reacting sharply to the statement of Bhatt, Harak Singh Rawat said that his DNA test had already been conducted during the CBI investigation and that he had been cleared in the probe. Rawat demanded that Mahendra Bhatt should also undergo a DNA test.
