PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun The 23-year-old Jenny case resurfaced on Saturday after Jenny renewed her allegations against former minister Harak Singh Rawat and demanded a DNA test to establish her son’s paternity. Addressing a press conference at the Uttaranchal Press Club, she alleged that she was kept in a mental hospital during the 2003 investigation and was forced to sign documents when she was not in a sound mental condition. Jenny said that her 23-year-old son had lived without his father’s identity for all these years and deserved to know his parentage. She also questioned the investigation process, claiming that CBI officials had visited her at the hospital only once. The case dates back to 2002, when Jenny, a resident of Assam, arrived in Dehradun. She had accused Rawat of sexually exploiting her on the pretext of providing a job. On June 15, 2003, she gave birth to a child and claimed that Rawat was the father. The controversy led to Rawat’s resignation as a minister. A CBI investigation followed, during which DNA samples of Rawat and the child reportedly did not match. Rawat has consistently cited the report to deny paternity and termed the allegations a political conspiracy. Jenny’s fresh allegations have brought the case back into focus. Rawat’s response to Saturday’s claims is awaited.
