Kedarnath visited by maximum number at more than five lakh Wednesday, 29 MAY 2024 | my uttarakhand news | DEHRADUN The number of people undertaking the Char Dham Yatra has remained high with many thousands visiting the temples on a daily basis. According to official data, more than 12 lakh people have visited the Char Dham shrines since the reopening of Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri on May 10 and Badrinath on May 12.  Kedarnath has received the maximum number of pilgrims with more than five lakh people having visited this temple so far. According to information provided by the Tourism department, 12,69,015 people have visited the Char Dham shrines till Tuesday evening. About 21,887 people visited Kedarnath in Rudraprayag district on Tuesday with a total of 5,31,575 having visited the temple so far. In Chamoli district, 10,014 people visited the Badrinath temple on Tuesday with 2,87,412 having visited the temple so far. Similarly, in the Uttarkashi district 11,492 people visited the Yamunotri temple on Tuesday while 10,892 visited the Gangotri temple on the same day. A total of 2,29,654 people have visited the Yamunotri temple and 2,20,374 have visited the Gangotri temple so far. The first fortnight of the Char Dham Yatra has seen all past records being broken with more people visiting some of the Char Dham temples in a single day than ever before. The total number of pilgrims visiting these shrines so far has also crossed the number of pilgrims during the corresponding period in past years. The unprecedented crowds of pilgrims in the initial days resulted in major traffic jams and other issues. The State government has since made registration of pilgrims mandatory. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has also directed officials to ascertain the carrying capacity of the Char Dham and the routes leading to these temples.
