PIONEEREDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun The army quickly responded to the request of the administration and engaged in the rescue operation in the disaster-affected Tharali in Chamoli district on Saturday. A flash flood triggered disaster in the Tharali market and nearby areas on the intervening night of August 22 and 23. On the request of the administration, a column of Infantry battalion of the Indian army comprising about 50 personnel was moved from Rudraprayag to the affected area on Saturday morning. The army also rushed a team of doctors and paramedics from Jyotirmath. It also pressed into service the search and rescue (SAR) dogs with surveillance drones to the affected area to assist in locating survivors and providing relief. “The district administration of Chamoli has forwarded a written requisition to the Army for assistance. The Indian Army remains committed to providing all necessary support to the civil administration and local population,’’ a communique from the Army said. It is pertinent to mention here that the Indian army was the first responder in the Dharali disaster on August 5. The troops of the Ibex brigade stationed at Harsil immediately reached the affected site within ten minutes and started the rescue operation. The army camp located at Harsil was also affected by the disaster but undeterred by this more than 150 personnel of army plunged themselves into rescue and relief operation.
