Dehradun, 26 Nov: The Asian School capped off a memorable week of cricket with a composed six-wicket win over GRD World School, clinching the championship at the 8th SelaQui All India Inter-School Cricket Tournament (Under-19 Boys), held from 21 to 26 November.
The final began on a nervous note as GRD World School opted to bat first but struggled to find momentum, folding for 94 runs in 19.5 overs. The Asian School, however, showed calm nerves in the chase, reaching 95 for 4 in 16.2 overs to seal the title and spark celebrations among their teammates and supporters.
Over six days, the tournament brought together young cricketers from across the country, turning the SelaQui grounds into a lively arena of competition and camaraderie. In total, players scored 2,163 runs, hit 28 sixes, and sent 195 deliveries to the boundary. Bowlers made their presence felt as well, with 167 wickets falling and 14 maiden overs bowled. Six players crossed the fifty-run mark, highlighting the depth of batting talent on display.
At the closing ceremony, Headmaster Dr Dillip Kumar Panda presented awards to standout performers who kept spectators engaged throughout the tournament:
Best Bowler: Ayaanveer Bhatia (The Kasiga School, Dehradun), who impressed with 15 wickets.
Best Batsman: Tushyat Sharma (SelaQui International School), scoring a steady 128 runs.
Best All-Rounder: Kyaan Dutta (SelaQui International School), contributing 102 runs and taking 3 key wickets.
Best Wicket-Keeper: Varnit Singh (The Asian School), for sharp and reliable work behind the stumps.
Fair Play Award: The Kasiga School, recognised for their sportsmanship on and off the field.
Man of the Match – Final: Angad Bhardwaj (The Asian School), whose spell of 3 wickets for 15 runs turned the final in his team’s favour.
GRD World School received the Runners-Up Trophy for their spirited campaign and fighting performance in the final. Dr Panda also acknowledged the efforts of umpires, coaches, and accompanying staff, presenting them with tokens of appreciation—an earnest reminder that tournaments thrive not only on talent, but on the dedication of those who support it.
