Dehradun, 17 May: Experts at Graphic Era Hospital shared information about hypertension prevention, its harmful effects, and the importance of a healthy lifestyle. They said that to keep high blood pressure (hypertension) under control, it is essential to follow a low-salt and potassium-rich diet, avoid packed food, maintain weight, get adequate sleep, and consume fresh fruits and vegetables.
A hypertension awareness programme was organised today at Graphic Era Hospital on the occasion of World Hypertension Day. Experts said that uncontrolled high blood pressure can seriously affect vital organs of the body, including the heart, kidneys, and brain. They emphasised that consuming potassium-rich food, avoiding junk and processed food, and adopting regular physical activity are important for preventing hypertension. They also said that staying away from habits like smoking and alcohol consumption can significantly reduce the risk of hypertension.
Describing hypertension as a ‘silent killer’ the experts said that its symptoms often appear late, making regular blood pressure check-ups necessary. They advised people to take medicines on time and not ignore symptoms such as sudden headaches, dizziness, fatigue, and breathlessness. During the programme, patients and their attendants asked various questions related to hypertension, which were answered by the experts in a simple and detailed manner.
On the occasion, Graphic Era Hospital also launched a digital health magazine, titled ‘Health Samvaad’. The monthly magazine will be published regularly as part of the patient awareness initiative and will include information on disease prevention, healthy lifestyle practices, expert medical advice, and other important health-related topics.
The panel discussion included Medical Director of Graphic Era Hospital Dr Puneet Tyagi, Senior Consultant and Head of Cardiology Dr Raj Pratap, Director of Diabetes and Endocrinology Dr Sunil Kumar Mishra, Senior Consultant, Neurosurgery, Dr Ankur Kapoor, and Consultant, Nephrology, Dr Arun Joshi.
