
PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita is not merely a religious text, but a timeless guide to human life. It is a divine source of light, containing a unique compilation of human conduct, contemplation, duty, devotion and knowledge. He said this while participating in the International Gita Mahotsav in Kurukshetra, Haryana on Saturday. In his address, Dhami said that the teachings given by Lord Krishna to Arjuna on the sacred land of Kurukshetra have become the eternal wisdom of humanity in the form of the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita. From this land, the message of religion, duty, truth and selfless action, emanated for the human society. He expressed his gratitude to the Haryana government and Swami Gyananand Ji Maharaj for spreading the message of the Gita to the masses through this mega festival. Dhami said he has followed the Gita since childhood. The CM said that in the modern age, when human life has become complex and stressful due to the race for materialism, the message of the Gita has become even more relevant. The Gita’s 18 chapters teach us some form of Yoga. All the sutras described in the Gita provide eternal guidance for leading a balanced, purposeful and in accordance with the highest ideals of morality. “Due to the Gita’s universality, research on the Gita is being conducted in major universities across the world. The Bhagavad Gita is recognized worldwide as a text on leadership, management, and self-peace. The Gita not only provides practical wisdom for living, but also inspires us to transform every challenge into an opportunity,’’ he said. Dhami said that, keeping in mind the importance of the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita, the Uttarakhand government has made daily recitation of verses from the Gita mandatory in all schools across the state. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has entered the Amrit Kaal (golden phase) of renaissance of its cultural consciousness. Today, the flag of our eternal culture is flying proudly across the world, and India, by reconnecting with its roots, is rapidly moving towards becoming a world leader. Stating Uttarakhand as a sacred centre of faith, belief and culture, the CM said that the State government has implemented strict laws against forced religious conversions to preserve the cultural values and original nature. Similarly, a strict anti-riot law has also been enacted and more than 10,000 acres of government land has been freed from encroachment. Uttarakhand is the first state in the country that has implemented the Uniform Civil Code. Union minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Swami Avadheshanand, Kumar Rishi, Swami Lokesh Muni, Baba Bhupendra, Kapil Puri and others attended the programme.
