Dehradun, 31 Mar: As a result of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s persistent efforts and advocacy, the proposed four-lane Rishikesh Bypass has received approval from the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. The Ministry has issued technical, administrative, and financial approvals for this significant project, amounting to Rs 1,105.79 crore.This much-awaited project will be developed from the Tinpani Flyover (km 529.750) to the Kharasote Bridge (km 542.420) on National Highway 7. The approximately 12.67 kilometre-long bypass will pass through Bhattowala and Dhalwala villages and will be implemented under the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) mode.Expressing his happiness over this approval, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that the state government is continuously striving to strengthen road connectivity in the state. He stated that the completion of the Rishikesh Bypass Project will ease traffic congestion in the area, alleviate traffic congestion, and greatly facilitate local residents as well as the Chardham Yatra and tourism activities.The Chief Minister stated, “This project is an important step towards the overall development of Uttarakhand and improved connectivity. Our government is committed to connecting remote and urban areas of the state with a robust road network.”According to the Ministry, the initial estimate for the project was Rs 1,151.18 crore, which was revised to Rs 1,139.40 crore, and finally, Rs 1,105.79 crore have been approved.The project will be completed within a three-year timeframe, and no cost or time overruns will be accepted. Tenders will be invited through an e-tendering process, and all work will be carried out in accordance with established guidelines.The expenditure for this project will be incurred under the Government of India’s Budget Provision (GBS) in the financial year 2025-26. The Dehradun-based regional officer has been designated as the Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO) for this work.Completion of this project will streamline traffic flow in the Rishikesh area, reduce traffic congestion, and boost the state’s economic and tourism development.
