Dehradun, 6 Feb: The Union Government has praised the good governance model under Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and has approved an incentive of Rs 264.5 crores for reforms in Uttarakhand’s Housing and Urban Development sector. The state government has claimed that this recognition comes for the successful implementation of various policy measures led by the department. CM Dhami has expressed gratitude to the Central Government for the incentive.
It may be recalled that the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs had earlier directed the states to carry out reforms in their urban development and housing sectors. Following Uttarakhand’s compliance, the ministry has sanctioned the Rs 264.5 crores incentive under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment 2025-26 scheme. Of this, the Urban Development Department received Rs 3 crores for GIS-based utility mapping covering sewer, drinking water and drainage works; Rs 6.5 crores for mapping government lands and buildings and Rs 10 crores to strengthen income sources at the local body level.
The Housing Department has secured the largest share due to its effective reforms. Under urban land and planning initiatives, it introduced rules for the Town Planning Scheme and Land Pooling Scheme, earning Rs 100 crores from the ministry. Another amount of Rs 140 crores has been approved for the rejuvenation programme targeting old urban areas. Additionally, an amount of Rs 5 crores has been granted for integrating Green Building standards into building bye-laws. Secretary Housing Dr R Rajesh Kumar stated that under CM Dhami’s leadership, the department is committed to providing affordable housing to every citizen and positioning Uttarakhand among the country’s leading states.
Commenting on the development, Dhami observed that his government is implementing all the Central Government guidelines with full sincerity. He highlighted that this Rs 264.5 crores approval for housing and urban development reforms follows a prior Rs 200 crore incentive for mining sector reforms. Uttarakhand, he asserted, has become an ideal model of good governance.
