Monday, 20 MAY 2024 | my uttarakhand news | DEHRADUN With people continuing to throng the Char Dham temples in large numbers more than six lakh people have undertaken the pilgrimage so far since the reopening of Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri on May 10 and Badrinath on May 12. According to official data, 34,893 pilgrims visited Kedarnath on Sunday with the total number of visitors reaching 2,81,713. Badrinath has been visited by 1,20,757 pilgrims so far with 28,055 visiting on Sunday. Similarly, 1,25,605 have visited Yamunotri so far and 1,12,508 have visited Gangotri. A total of 6,40,586 people have visited the Char Dham temples so far, according to information provided by officials. Meanwhile, amidst a record number of pilgrims visiting Kedarnath, the personnel of various departments are working to ensure that those visiting continue to receive the services and facilities they provide without disruption. A special focus is being laid on the safety of the pilgrims on the Kedarnath route, officials said. The railing along the trek to Kedarnath has been damaged at places due to the rush of pilgrims. Workers are repairing the damaged railings promptly to ensure the safety of visitors. Boulders in the Kuber glacier, emerging due to melting of snow, are also being removed by workers to prevent any mishap. The workers are removing such boulders at night to prevent any hindrance to the pilgrimage during the daytime, officials said. In Uttarkashi district, an unprecedented number of pilgrims are travelling to Yamunotri and Gangotri. Considering this, the administration has stepped up its efforts and sent all officials concerned to the Dhams and the Yatra routes. Necessary facilities are being increased considering the high number of pilgrims and preventive measures are being ensured for safety and traffic management. Officials averred that the pilgrimage is underway in a systematic manner despite the heavy rush.
