PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Uttarkashi Chief election commissioner (CEC) of India Gyanesh Kumar has said that the booth level officers are working diligently at the ground level to purify the voter list by identifying the absent, shifted, dead, duplicate and foreign voters. The CEC started his two day visit of Uttarakhand from Uttarkashi on Saturday. Kumar inspected the preparations for the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls at the polling booths located near the Indo- China border. The CEC was welcomed by the chief electoral officer (CEO) Uttarakhand, BVRC Purushottam at Jhala helipad in Uttarkashi. During his visit, Kumar conducted a field inspection of a polling booth in Harshil in the Gangotri Vidhan Sabha. He held detailed discussions with the local BLO and inquired about SIR mapping and other related matters. Praising BLO, Mintu Devi, the CEC said that the commission salutes all the BLOs engaged in SIR work with dedication. Kumar also visited a special polling booth for the saints at Gangotri and held discussions with the ascetics. He expressed his gratitude to the saints for taking an active part in the festival of elections despite difficult conditions and severe cold. He said that a polling booth where 100 per cent of the voters are Sadhus engrossed only in meditation, is a unique example of the diversity and strength of our democratic system. In his visit Kumar inquired about the preparations for the upcoming SIR in the State from the CEO Uttarakhand who gave detailed information regarding the mapping of the upcoming SIR, ASDD list and other activities. Earlier in the day, the CEC performed a special puja at the temple of goddess Ganga at Gangotri where he prayed for the happiness, prosperity and well-being of the country. The sub divisional magistrate Mukta Mishra, deputy chief electoral officer Kishan Singh Negi, ERO Gangotri Shalini Negi and others were present on the occasion.
