PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun The State government will set up new fire stations at Bhimtal, Dwarahat, Gauchar, Purola and Sahastradhara. The government will also establish a world-class training centre for the Fire Services in the State. These announcements were made by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in a programme organized on the occasion of Fire Service week at Police Line, Dehradun on Saturday.  Speaking on the occasion, the CM said that the personnel of Uttarakhand Fire and Emergency Services have saved property worth more than Rs 53,000 crore, saved more than 27,000 humans lives and about 7,000 animals from fire since the creation of Uttarakhand. He said that the women are also contributing as fire-fighters in Uttarakhand Fire Services, which makes everyone proud.  Dhami said the State government is working on strengthening the infrastructure related to fire and emergency services and modernisation of fire fighting equipment. He said that the Union government has approved a sum of Rs 71 crore for Uttarakhand Fire and Emergency Services. At present, efforts are underway to build 18 fire stations in the State and purchase world-class equipment to deal with fire emergencies.  The CM said that mapping of fire stations is being done in accordance with the geographical conditions and requirements of Uttarakhand, after which fire stations can be opened in remote areas. He said that the role of fire services becomes more important during natural disasters. Last year, during the disasters in Kedarnath, Tanakpur, Khatima, Arakot and Raini, the fire service employees worked with diligence and dedication.  The CM directed that the Forest and Fire Service departments should respond promptly to prevent forest fires. He said that Fire Services will also play an important role in the successful and efficient conduct of the upcoming Char Dham Yatra. In the programme, the CM felicitated seven fire-fighters who won medals during the Third All India Fire Service Games and two fire-fighters who won DGFS Disc Medal of Home Ministry, Government of India. He also flagged off 20 new fire tenders and fire fighting vehicles which were included in the fleet of the State Fire Services. Dehradun mayor Saurabh Thapliyal, secretary Shailesh Bagauli, director general of police Deepam Seth, UPSC chairman Ravi Dutt Godiyal, chairperson of State Commission for Protection of Child Rights Dr Geeta Khanna and others attended the programme.
