
PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced an annual allocation of Rs 100 crore for the construction of residential buildings for police personnel over the next three years and the construction of five new barracks for SDRF personnel at Bhawali in Nainital, Dhalmalla Kanda in Bageshwar, Nainidanda Dhumakot in Pauri, Ghansali in Tehri and Satpuli in Pauri. He stated this during the Police Martyrs’ Memorial Day ceremony held at the Police Lines in Dehradun on Tuesday, where tributes were paid to police and paramilitary personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty. Dhami, accompanied by the director general of police Deepam Seth and other officials, laid wreaths at the memorial and felicitated family members of the police personnel with shawls. The CM declared that all personnel of the Uttarakhand Police will be awarded a special silver jubilee medal on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the state’s formation. The Police Welfare Fund allocation has also been revised from Rs 2.5 crore to Rs 4.5 crore for the coming year to support welfare schemes. He stated that police and paramilitary personnel have made supreme sacrifices to maintain internal security. He also informed that the promotion process for police personnel has been made time-bound, with 356 officers and staff promoted this year and 115 pending cases under process. A total of 215 personnel have been awarded medals and insignia for distinguished service. Police training institutions are being upgraded, with police training centre Narendranagar being developed as a Centre of Excellence. Police personnel are being sent to national institutions for Artificial Intelligence and cyber security training. Dhami stated that all processes related to salary, allowances, medical reimbursements and leave have been digitised. A new SDRF company with 162 posts has been approved to strengthen disaster response. The government has given appointments to 136 dependent families of deceased police personnel under the compassionate quota. Provisions have been made under the State sports policy for recruitment of talented sportspersons in the police force. The DGP also recalled that October 21 is observed nationwide as Police Martyrs’ Day in memory of 10 CRPF personnel who died defending the nation at Hot Springs, Ladakh, in 1959. Since independence, around 35,000 police personnel across India have lost their lives on duty, including 186 in the past year, of whom four were from Uttarakhand. He informed that 205 police personnel in Uttarakhand have died in the line of duty since the formation of the State. Families of the fallen personnel have been included as part of the police fraternity, with nodal officers appointed to ensure timely assistance and resolution of their issues. Under various welfare schemes, scholarships worth Rs 3.04 crore have been provided to 3,612 meritorious children of police personnel, and Rs 17 crore has been disbursed to around 600 personnel for medical aid. Free insurance coverage of up to Rs one crore for accidental death and Rs 10 lakh for life insurance has been arranged, with Rs 26.2 crore already paid to 55 families. Seth stated that the central police canteens are operational across 13 districts and four PAC units to provide essential items at affordable rates. Five police modern schools affiliated with CBSE are functional in Dehradun, Haridwar and PAC units, with 3,032 children enrolled.
