Tuesday, 15 October 2024 | my uttarakhand news | DEHRADUN Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that in order to become competitive at national and international levels there is need to set high standards for industrial and traditional products produced in the State. He attended a programme organized at Himalayan cultural centre, Garhi Cantt on the occasion of ‘World Standards Day’ on Monday. The CM said that standards are not just technical guidelines or benchmarks, but they are the foundation of our country’s development and self-reliance. He averred that the standards set by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) play a very important role in the certification of our industries, trade and services. He said that in recent years the ecosystem of standards has expanded widely, which now covers almost all sectors including agriculture, road transport, health and other services. Dhami said that standards of high quality, safety and efficiency should be implemented in all sectors to improve quality of life and to strengthen the economy. The CM said that the dream of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat” is being realised under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that PM’s objective is that the Indian products should become an example in the whole world for their quality, innovation and reliability and for this more than 22,000 standards have been set by the BIS. The CM said that the traditional products of Uttarakhand such as handicrafts, organic agricultural products, medicinal herbs and other local products should be of high standards. “This will increase the recognition of our products not only at the national level but also at the global level. Our branding will be stronger. The State government has set up an umbrella brand named ‘House of Himalayas’, which is an important step towards giving global recognition to our local products. We want BIS to measure the standards of these products,’’ he said. The CM added that the theme of this year’s World Standards Day is SDG-9, which is related to industry, innovation and infrastructure. Speaking at the occasion the cabinet minister Rekha Arya said that to achieve success in any field of life, it is necessary to set standards in life; similarly the BIS determines the standards of various goods and products in our country. Commissioner food safety, Hari Chandra Semwal, Director General UCOST Durgesh Pant and others attended the programme.
