PIONEEREDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun Reviewing rescue and relief works underway in the disaster-affected areas of the State on Saturday, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami directed officials to remain especially alert during the next few days considering the weather alerts issued by the State Meteorological Centre.  Chairing the review through video conferencing, the CM sought detailed information about all disaster-affected areas from the officials of the State Emergency Operation Centre and all the district magistrates. Stating that nobody can control a disaster, he said that the rescue and relief teams are doing commendable work by reaching ground-zero without delay. Regarding Syanachatti in Uttarkashi, the CM said that debris had caused a rise in the level of water in the river. He said that the debris removed to clear flow of the river should be shifted away from the banks so that it does not block the river again in case of rain. He said that the number of Char Dham pilgrims will increase after the rains decrease while the season of festivals is also approaching. Considering this, special focus should be laid on repairing the roads and sprucing up other necessary arrangements.  The Public Works Department officials were directed to expedite tenders and other official formalities for road repairs so that the necessary works are executed on time. Seeking information about damage caused in various areas in recent days, he directed officials to reopen blocked roads and restore the supply of electricity and water. Referring to the cattle and other domesticated animals injured in the disaster, Dhami directed the Animal Husbandry department to send teams of veterinarians to the affected villages. He told the district magistrates to unhesitatingly seek any assistance needed from the State administration to make the rescue and relief efforts more effective. The Disaster Management secretary was also directed to take immediate action on such demands from the districts and to release necessary funds without delay.
