PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun A day after eight persons died in a stampede at Mansa Devi temple in Haridwar, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami directed officials to ensure proper arrangements at major religious sites across the State, including the Mansa Devi and Chandi Devi temples in Haridwar, Purnagiri Dham in Tanakpur, Kainchi Dham in Nainital, Jageshwar in Almora and Neelkanth Mahadev in Pauri. He issued this direction during a high-level meeting on Monday. The CM emphasised the importance of crowd management, devotee registration, the widening of bridge paths and stairs, the removal of encroachments and the availability of basic facilities at these temples. The aim is to provide devotees with a smooth and safe Darshan experience, he said. Dhami instructed that a committee be formed, chaired by the commissioners of both divisions. This committee should include the district magistrate, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), vice chairman of the development authorities from the respective districts and representatives from executing agencies. Additionally, Dhami highlighted the need for planned development of the Mansa Devi temple complex and other major temple complexes, focusing on increasing their carrying capacity and managing shops systematically. He called for a strengthened, well-organised arrangement for Darshan, making registration of devotees compulsory. A phased approach should be adopted to control the number of visitors, helping to ensure that the crowd remains manageable and that devotees do not face any inconvenience.
