PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami flagged- in four successful mountaineering expeditions conducted by the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM), Uttarkashi, at his residence on Thursday.  Congratulating the climbers, the CM praised their courage, discipline, technical proficiency and team spirit in challenging high-altitude conditions. He said that the achievements of the climbers will inspire the youth of Uttarakhand and the country to pursue adventure activities. Dhami said that the NIM has established a significant presence in the country and the State in the fields of mountaineering, adventure sports, youth development and high-altitude Himalayan training. The CM said that Uttarakhand’s geographical conditions offer immense potential in the fields of mountaineering and adventure tourism. Such achievements by mountaineers not only inspire youth to engage in adventure sports but also strengthen Uttarakhand’s identity at the national and international levels. The expedition to Mount Aconcagua (6,961 mts) in Argentina was led by Colonel Hem Chandra Singh. The six-member expedition team successfully summited Mount Aconcagua on February 22, 2026. The NIM’s Nun-Kun Expedition 2026 was led by the institute’s Principal, Colonel S S Rajpurohit. The expedition team successfully summited the 7,077-metre-high Mount Kun on August 15, 2026. The team successfully summited the 5,908-metre Mount Delta-41 on August 26 and the 7,135-metre Mount Nun on August 31. Special principal secretary Sports and Youth Welfare Amit Kumar Sinha, principal of NIM Colonel S S Rajpurohit, Principal of Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports, Pahalgam Colonel Hem Chandra Singh and others attended the programme.
