Dehradun, 25 Dec: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today flagged off mobile medical unit vehicles under the ‘Gramin Garhwal Samagra Swasthya Seva Pariyojana’ (Rural Garhwal Comprehensive Healthcare Project), from his Camp Office. This is being stated as a significant step towards improving healthcare access in remote and hill regions of the Garhwal division. The project has been initiated by the Graphic Era Institute of Medical Sciences and Hospital, Dehradun, drawing inspiration from the CM’s vision of inclusive and accessible healthcare.
Speaking on the occasion, Dhami said the State Government is fully firmly committed to ensuring that no citizen is deprived of essential health services because of geographical remoteness or economic constraints. He claimed that the deployment of mobile medical units would make it easier to deliver timely and quality medical care to villages located in distant and inaccessible areas. He described the initiative as a commendable effort aimed at strengthening primary healthcare by bringing free medical check-ups, consultations and medicines directly to the doorsteps of rural residents.
The first phase of the project has been rolled out in Chamoli and Tehri Garhwal districts, where two fully equipped Mobile Medical Units have been deployed. These units will provide a wide range of services, including general medical care, more than 29 types of free pathology tests, free distribution of medicines, eye examinations, health consultations and referral services where specialised treatment is required. Each mobile unit will have doctors on board to ensure that villagers receive professional and reliable medical care.
According to the project plan, the mobile medical units will visit villages, towns, schools and local markets at pre-scheduled times, enabling maximum outreach and convenience for the local population. The operations will be carried out in close coordination with district administrations to ensure smooth functioning and effective service delivery.
Those present on the occasion included Chairman of Graphic Era Institute of Medical Sciences and Hospital, Dr Kamal Ghanshala, Puneet Tyagi, SL Jethani, Maj Gen OP Soni (Retd) and senior journalist Subhash Gupta.
