Dehradun, 10 Oct: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today handed over cheques of Rs 50 lakhs, each, to the dependants of three personnel who had tragically lost their lives in road accidents while serving under the Uttarakhand Purva Sainik Kalyan Nigam Limited (UPNL). The presentation ceremony was held at the Secretariat.
The deceased personnel included Brijesh Kumar, who was deployed in the Electricity Distribution Division, Jaspur, and passed away in January 2025; Tasleem, posted in BRIDCUL, Dehradun, who died in November 2024; and Sanjeev Kumar, serving in the Electricity Distribution Division, Haridwar, who lost his life in February 2025. All three were victims of road accidents while on duty.

In line with the directives of the Chief Minister and keeping in view the welfare of government, semi-government, and UPNL employees, the State Government had earlier signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the banks to extend various facilities and insurance benefits under the Corporate Salary Package. This initiative ensures that financial assistance is made available to the families of personnel in the event of accidental death.
On this occasion, the CM expressed his appreciation of Punjab National Bank for extending this facility to UPNL employees, acknowledging the bank’s role in enabling timely support to bereaved families.

Speaking on the occasion, Dhami observed that while no financial aid can truly compensate for the loss of human life, such assistance does offer economic relief to families during times of hardship. He reiterated the Government’s resolve to provide a safe and dignified working environment for all employees and assured that every possible support would be extended to their families in adverse circumstances. He further claimed that insurance and other protective measures are being provided to state employees under the Corporate Salary Package, and highlighted that the State Government, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is implementing several innovative measures aimed at employee welfare.
Among those present on the occasion were Principal Secretary RK Sudhanshu, Secretary Dipendra Chaudhary, Additional Secretary Manmohan Mainali, Maj Gen Shammi Sabharwal (Retd), Managing Director, UPNL, Brig JNS Bisht (Retd), Zonal Head of Punjab National Bank Anupam, Deputy General Manager Abhinandan, and Assistant General Manager Ajit Kumar Upadhyay.
