DEHRADUN, 10 Jan: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday participated in the closing ceremony of the first sports and cultural festival organised by the Cultural Development Committee at the Government Inter College, Chham, Tehri Garhwal. The Chief Minister inspected stalls set up by various departments and distributed certificates to individuals who registered under the UCC.
Paying obeisance to the holy land of lord Nagaraja, Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that such events play a vital role in preserving our folk culture and traditions and in connecting the younger generation with them. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the work of cultural renaissance is being carried out in the country. The Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, Kashi Vishwanath Corridor, Mahakal Corridor and the Badrinath–Kedarnath Dham have been given a grand form. The State government is also working on various projects in the State, including the Haridwar-Rishikesh Corridor.
The Chief Minister said that the State is being developed as a “Khelbhoomi” (Land of Sports). Sports academies are being established to provide high-level training to athletes. He mentioned that with the aim of establishing Tehri Lake on the international tourism map, competitions for various adventure sports including trekking and paragliding are being organised, and the construction of a ring road around the lake will create employment opportunities for local people.
The Chief Minister stated that the State government is continuously working towards encouraging reverse migration and promoting self-employment, home-stays, self-help groups, the Lakhpati Didi scheme and the Ayush wellness sector. Uttarakhand secured the first position in the list of Sustainable Development Goals issued by NITI Aayog, which the government is committed to maintaining. He said that the state government has implemented the Uniform Civil Code in the state. Under the zero-tolerance policy against corruption, the culprits are being sent to jail.
Dhami further said that the government is working with full dedication to make Devbhoomi Uttarakhand safe, prosperous and self-reliant. The State government has so far removed illegal encroachments from more than 10,000 hectares of government land and more than 6,000 illegal constructions have been demolished. He said that under the anti-riot law, every penny will be recovered from rioters. The government will not compromise on the unity, integrity and cultural values of the State at any cost and will continue to work with full firmness for protection of the honour of Devbhoom. Touching upon the issue of Ankita Bhandari case, he emphatically stated that the State government always stood with the family of its late sister Ankita Bhandari and stands with them even today. An SIT was formed by the government, which submitted its report after an intensive investigation lasting about two and a half years, based on which the three accused were sentenced to life imprisonment by the court. When Ankita’s parents demanded a CBI inquiry, the government respected their feelings and provided support at every level, and the State government will continue to stand with them in the future as well.
MLA Pritam Singh Panwar and MLA Kishore Upadhyay also expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister, stating that under the Chief Minister‘s leadership, work is being done to bring development schemes to the ground. They said that many historic decisions, including the UCC and the Anti-Copying Law, have been taken in the state during the Chief Minister‘s tenure.
On this occasion, Thauldhar Block Pramukh Surendra Bhandari, former Pramukh Jyot Singh Bisht, Sanjay Negi, Vinod Uniyal, Block BJYM State General Secretary Mulayam Singh Rawat, former Pramukh Khem Singh Chauhan and others were present.
