
PIONEEREDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun Considering the red and orange alerts regarding the possibility of heavy rains in the State till at least September 2, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed the district-level officials to remain alert 24 x 7 while observing extra caution. Chairing a high level meeting with State and district officials on Sunday, Dhami said that heavy and consistent rainfall is posing challenging situations in the State and considering the weather forecast, the next few days are also going to be challenging. Directing officials to take all necessary steps for public safety, the CM said that special focus should be laid on landslide prone routes while precautionary steps should be taken considering the risk of waterlogging in the plains. Every situation must be monitored from the State Emergency Operation Centre, he said. Stating that the government stands with those rendered homeless by disasters, he directed the Garhwal and Kumaon commissioners to expedite the rehabilitation of the disaster-affected while also working on alternatives for rehabilitation in the plain districts. The CM directed officials in the districts to remain present in the field to conduct relief and rescue works on a war footing. Seeking information from Border Roads Organisation (BRO) officials about the bridge swept away by the Tamak Nala on the Jyotirmath-Malari national highway in Chamoli district, Dhami said that this bridge is also strategically very important for the State and the nation. Directing that a Bailey bridge should be erected at the earliest to restore traffic, he said that any assistance required form the State government will be provided immediately to the BRO. Dhami also directed that the national highway to Gangotri should be made secure and its condition should be improved before resumption of the Yatra. With people from across India and abroad arriving in Uttarakhand for the Char Dham Yatra, the State is responsible for making their journey safe with no scope for complacency, he stressed. He reiterated that patchwork and construction of new roads should be started as soon as the monsoon ends. Reviewing the situation of lakes formed at Harshil and Syanachatti in Uttarkashi, he said that the lake in Syanachatti should be monitored round and the clockand rescue and relief teams should also be deployed there considering information about the level rising once again. He stressed that the large quantity of debris deposited in Harshil and Syanachatti should be removed from the river and dumped in a safe location. The CM further directed that the level of rivers should be carefully monitored during the next few days. The people should be alerted and protective measures should be taken without delay in case a risk is anticipated, he said.
