Dehradun, 26 Feb: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today released financial assistance amounting to Rs 145.93 crores under the Nanda Gaura Yojana through the Direct Benefit Transfer system, benefiting 33,251 girls across the state for the financial year 2025-26.
The funds were transferred electronically into the beneficiaries’ bank accounts during a programme held at the Chief Minister’s residence here today. Addressing a programme organised at the Chief Minister’s residence on this occasion, Dhami stated that the government is working with unwavering resolve to support daughters from birth onwards and to eliminate discrimination between sons and daughters at the time of birth. He said the Nanda Gaura Yojana is being implemented with the objective of encouraging the birth of girl children and promoting their welfare. Under the scheme, financial assistance of Rs 11,000 each is provided on the birth of a girl child, while a further sum of Rs 51,000 is granted for higher education after a daughter passes her Class 12 examination.
Dhami stated that a total amount of Rs 1168.49 crores has been disbursed to 3,77,784 girls under the scheme, so far. He added that the government is also encouraging higher education among daughters and has made provision for 30 per cent reservation for women in government services to facilitate employment opportunities after graduation. As a result, the representation of women from Uttarakhand in government services has increased significantly, which, he observed, has contributed to a positive transformation in the work culture of government offices.
The CM further stated that the government is endeavouring to strengthen the economic position of ordinary women in the state through the Lakhpati Didi Yojana. He maintained that the Nanda Gaura Yojana has proved effective in discouraging female foeticide, promoting institutional deliveries, advancing girls’ education and addressing gender inequality in society.
Departmental Minister Rekha Arya shared that of the total beneficiaries this year, 5,913 are newborn girls, while 27,338 girls received assistance after successfully passing their Class 12 examinations. She conveyed her best wishes to all the beneficiaries.
Among those present at the programme included Secretary Chandresh Kumar, Departmental Director Banshilal Rana and other officials and employees.
