Friday, 23 AUGUST 2024 | my uttarakhand news | NEW TEHRI Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reached Ghutthu-Panja-Devling in Tehri district on Thursday and inspected the relief and rescue operations going on in the disaster-affected areas. During his visit, the CM also met the affected locals and assured all possible help to them. Nearly a dozen villages in this area of Tehri were hit by landslides following heavy rains past Tuesday midnight causing deaths of more than a dozen cattle along with damage to homes and agricultural land. Dhami said that there has been a lot of damage due to heavy rainfall in Ghutthu. A number of homes have been damaged and cattle have died due to the disaster. He directed the district administration to provide immediate assistance to the disaster- affected, assess the damage in affected areas, find out the causes of the disaster and start the reconstruction work in the affected areas. He said that there will not be any lack of funds in facilitating such works, adding that efforts will be made to compensate for the loss caused by the disaster as soon as possible. Regarding the complaint of the villagers about the damage to the houses due to Ghutthu hydro power plan, the chief minister directed the district magistrate to get it checked. District magistrate Mayur Dixit informed that 29 buildings have been damaged in Ghutthu area under Ghansali Tehsil due to heavy rainfall on the intervening night of August 20 and 21. Out of these, six buildings are completely damaged and 23 buildings are partially damaged. So far, more than Rs 10 lakh has been given as compensation for about nine damaged homes. People of about 20 families living in homes partially damaged are being kept in disaster relief camps for their safety. All necessary arrangements are being made for these people. The DM further said that after the situation becomes normal, if there is a need for relocation of some villages, then necessary action will be taken as per rules or those who want to go to rented houses will be provided funds for rent as per rules. He said that 17 cattle also died in the disaster. About 24 drinking water supply lines have been damaged. Along with this, other assets like electricity supply lines, roads and culverts have also suffered damage. Earlier, Dixit inspected the disaster-affected areas and also met the affected people of Ranidhang staying in the disaster relief camp. While listening to the problems of the affected people, he said that a survey will be conducted in the area by the geological team.
