Dehradun, 28 Jan: BJP’s State Media In-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan today alleged that the Congress party is acting as an obstacle in the path of justice in the Ankita Bhandari murder case instead of contributing constructively to the process. Reacting sharply to recent statements made by Congress President Ganesh Godiyal, Chauhan asserted that Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had recommended a CBI inquiry in keeping with public sentiment and in accordance with the specific demand of Ankita’s parents. Chauhan claimed that the Congress never genuinely wanted a CBI probe and it appeared unsettled by the CM’s decisive announcement. He added that making a request to a central investigating agency is part of a defined procedure and that the time taken by the CBI to give its consent also falls within that process, yet the Congress continues to indulge in what he described as baseless and accusatory politics.
The BJP leader asserted that instead of indulging in a media trial, the Congress ought to have clarified the legal status of the case. He alleged that the Congress party is now distorting facts by citing the earlier court-monitored investigation to suit its political narrative. He said that the legal experts had closely examined the facts and arguments during the proceedings, but the Congress is attempting to extract political mileage by reopening issues that have already been settled. The investigating agencies remained alert to ensure that during the probe, the accused could not divert the investigation through tactics such as demands for Narco tests.
Chauhan further reminded that the courts had earlier expressed satisfaction with the SIT investigation and had rejected the demand for a CBI inquiry at that stage. He said that despite the Congress repeatedly raising questions during the SIT probe, the outcome is evident, as the accused in the murder case remain lodged in jail and have failed to secure bail. Chauhan also alleged that the Congress had recently tried to create confusion over a CBI probe into recruitment scams but was eventually embarrassed as the investigations continued unhindered. He reiterated that the recommendation for a CBI inquiry into the Ankita Bhandari case was made solely to address any lingering doubts in the minds of her parents, but the Congress continues to keep the issue alive with allegations as its political strategy to corner the BJP has failed.
Referring to other issues in the state, Chauhan reminded that SIT inquiry is presently underway in connection with a farmer’s suicide in Udham Singh Nagar and action has been taken against the accused on the basis of the complaint. He remarked that in the same district, the Congress party’s campaign against the police collapsed when its claims were exposed. He cited an incident in which a legislator’s son allegedly conspired an attack on himself in an attempt to defame the government and the police, following which the legislator apologised publicly. Chauhan alleged that despite this, the Congress has remained silent and, instead of tendering an apology, continues to level fresh allegations.
Chauhan further claimed that the people are fully aware of the Congress party’s growing restlessness and asserted that they will not forgive the misleading propaganda being spread. He accused the Congress of abandoning constructive politics and resorting to misinformation, with the sole objective of obstructing the process of justice in the Ankita case, a strategy which, he said, has been clearly understood by the public.
