Dehradun, 26 Nov: A seminar was organised at the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Headquarters here today to mark the Constitution Day. The meeting was chaired by PCC Chief Ganesh Godiyal. The event also witnessed the participation of a large number of senior Congress leaders, party workers, intellectuals, social activists, and citizens. Interestingly, the Congress observed the Samvidhan Diwas as Save Constitution Day instead of simply observing the day as Constitution Day.
On the occasion, Ganesh Godiyal reiterated his and the party’s resolve to uphold the ideals and path shown by Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar. He observed that the Constitution is not merely a document but the soul of the nation. He added that it is the sacred duty of every citizen, particularly Congress members, to safeguard it. Expressing concern over the growing pressure on democratic institutions and the erosion of constitutional values in the present times, Godiyal called upon the party workers to unite and dedicate themselves to the defence of democracy.
Godiyal claimed that while there is widespread discourse across the country about protecting the Constitution and its values, the BJP continues to take decisions that undermine the sanctity of the constitution and as a result it has created a sense of unease among the general public. The PCC Chief called upon the Congress workers to ensure that the country progresses on the principles of justice, equality, liberty, and fraternity as envisioned by Dr Ambedkar.
All those present on this occasion also took a solemn pledge to protect the Constitution and reinforce democratic values. The seminar was conducted by PCC member Rajendra Singh Bhandari.
Ganesh Godiyal, along with Congress workers, paid tribute and observed silence in memory of former Minister and senior activist Diwakar Bhatt and those who were martyred in the Mumbai attacks on 26 November. He also offered floral tributes to the portrait of Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar.
Former MLA Hira Singh Bist, Manoj Rawat, Jot Singh Gunsola, Vaibhav Walia, Sevadal Chief Hema Purohit, Jasvind Singh Gogi, District President Mohit Uniyal, Rajendra Shah, Garima Mehra Dasoni, Pratima Singh, Sujata Paul, Rajesh Chamoli, Abhinav Thapar, Budhijeevi Vibhag President Pradeep Joshi, SC Vibhag Pradesh President Madan Lal, former President Darshan Lal, Devendra Singh, Amarendra Singh, Colonel Ramratan Negi, Amarendra Sharma, Sanjay Sharma, Shivani Thapliyal, Dinesh Gaur, Upendra Thapli, Yakub Siddiqui, Dinesh Kaushal, Manju Tripathi, Himanshu Bahuguna, and several others shared their views during the seminar.
