PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the concept of an energy State is at the very foundation of the idea of Uttarakhand. He said that a coordinated effort is needed to make Uttarakhand a power surplus State. He was addressing a programme organised by the Uttarakhand electricity officers and employees joint federation. In the programme, the federation felicitated the CM Dhami. The CM said that the state government is getting support from the Government of India in every field. Dhami said that in the distribution utility ranking released by the union Ministry of Power, the UPCL has secured the first position in the country in the special category distribution corporations. The CM said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the State government is determined to establish Uttarakhand as a leading state in the field of energy. He said that work is in progress on the Lakhwar dam project for power generation, Jamrani dam multipurpose project and Song dam project to solve the drinking water problems in Dehradun in the coming 50 years. The establishment of a state-of-the-art GIS (Gas Insulated Substation) sub-stations is also underway in the State. He said that work has been done to bring transparency through technology by installing 16 lakh smart meters in the state. Encouragement is being given to the production of green energy by creating coordination between economy and ecology. The CM said that the power cables of Dehradun city are being laid underground. UPCL has saved crores of rupees every year by controlling the overdraft situation in real time by using the state-of-the-art automated demand response system. He said that a world-class disaster management conference was organized in Dehradun in 2023. Disasters cannot be prevented but their impact can be reduced. The State government has chosen a development model that balances between ecology and economy. Dhami averred that the production of green energy is being encouraged by creating coordination between economy and ecology. Under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana, about 20,000 rooftop solar plants have so far been installed. He said that we have to adopt the best practices of other states in our state as well. In the programme, the officers and employees of the power corporation expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister for solving various problems of the employees of the energy corporations. Principal secretary R Meenakshi Sundaram, UJVNL MD Sandeep Singhal and personnel of the corporation also attended the programme.
