Crossings in Doon are now a ‘living cultural corridor’: DM

my uttarakhand news Bureau
Dehradun, 11 Dec:  Major intersections in Doon city are being transformed from routine traffic points into grand, safe and culturally vibrant public spaces designed to offer smoother access and an enhanced visual experience. According to District Magistrate Savin Bansal, the transformation is inspired by the vision and guidance of the Chief Minister, The projects, executed by the District Administration under the direction of District Magistrate Savin Bansal and funded by Smart City Limited, include the redevelopment of Kuthal Gate at a cost of Rs 1.35 crore and Sai Mandir Tiraaha at Rs 85 lakhs.

It may be reminded here that, within six months, the District Administration has completed the construction of new 10-metre-wide motorable slip roads, roundabouts, modern lighting systems, hill-style beautification features, traffic safety designs and installations showcasing the state’s folk culture and statehood movement at both intersections. These developments are expected to significantly improve traffic flow in Dehradun, reduce accident risks and offer tourists a glimpse of Uttarakhand’s cultural richness.
Traditional Garhwal and Kumaon architectural elements, memorials of eminent personalities, tributes to statehood activists and religious and cultural artefacts have been installed to convert these intersections into a ‘Living Cultural Corridor’. This corridor aims to introduce visitors to Uttarakhand’s folk traditions and strengthen tourism. The DM observed that the innovative initiative not only enhances traffic flow and safety but also provides a vibrant representation of the statehood struggle and folk heritage, ensuring that every visitor to Dehradun experiences the culture, history and spirit of Uttarakhand at these squares.
In the first phase of the project, four major intersections in the district were widened and equipped with modern roundabout-based traffic systems for smooth and safe movement. After the completion of Kuthal Gate and Sai Mandir Tiraaha, the modernisation of Dilaram Chowk is also nearing its final stage, and the District Magistrate informed that the inauguration of the ancient cultural and religious installations at the site will take place soon.
The efforts of the District Administration have also achieved the beautification of intersections, preservation of traditional architectural styles, improved traffic safety and the creation of a tourist-friendly environment. This initiative marks a significant step towards developing Dehradun as a modern capital city enriched with its cultural, mythological and historical heritage, according to the district administration.
