Dehradun, 16 Feb: Chief Secretary (CS) Anand Bardhan today held a review meeting regarding sustainable, inclusive and climate resilient tourism under the Tehri Lak Project. During the meeting, he directed the officials that an effective action plan be prepared for developing Tehri Lake as a global destination. He instructed the Secretary, Tourism, to ensure that, at the level of the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Council (UTDC), a comprehensive tourism-oriented master plan for Tehri Lake and its adjoining areas is prepared prior to the implementation of schemes relating to tourism development and infrastructure facilities.
During a review meeting held at the Secretariat the CS directed the officials to prepare the proposal to be sent to the Government of India for developing Tehri Lake as a global destination by detailing and incorporating all significant aspects for the development of the Lake as global destination. He also directed the Tourism Department to align its action plan accordingly.
Bardhan further instructed that work on the proposed ring road around Tehri Lake be expedited. He also directed that at least two helipads be developed along the proposed ring road in addition to the planned seaplane scheme for Tehri Lake. In this regard, he asked the Secretary, Finance, to coordinate with the Secretary, Tourism, Civil Aviation and the departments concerned with lake development to ensure that the schemes are advanced at a faster pace.
Stating that development of world-class infrastructure is essential to establish Tehri Lake as a global tourist destination, the CS directed the Public Works Department (PWD) officials to accelerate construction work on the ring road. He observed that once the ring road is completed, the pace of development of other infrastructure facilities would also increase. He also instructed that the proposals relating to tourism development in Rishikesh Muni Ki Reti and Lohaghat in Champawat be also prepared at the earliest so that all proposals, along with the master plan, can be forwarded to the Government of India within the stipulated timeframe.
Among those present at the meeting were Secretaries Dilip Jawalkar and S Sridhar Babu Addanki, Additional Secretary Abhishek Rohilla, Girdhari Singh Rawat and other officials.
