Dehradun, 3 Apr: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the renovated and restored Jugmander Hall auditorium at the Dehradun Municipal Corporation (Doon Nagar Nigam) here today. The renovation of the iconic Jugmander Hall has been completed at a cost of Rs 2.32 crores and is aimed at preserving and promoting cultural heritage of the city. While addressing the gathering, Dhami asserted that Dehradun is being developed as major and leading metropolitan city.
During the event, the CM also laid the foundation stone for several urban infrastructure projects, including the construction of kennels at the Animal Birth Control Centre (ABC) in Kedarpuram and the development and beautification of parks at six distinct locations within the Dehradun municipal limits.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister emphasised that the state government is moving forward with a firm commitment to the mantra of development alongside heritage. He said that Dehradun is being transformed into a modern urban centre but its rich identity and cultural legacy remain intact. He stressed that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, extensive efforts are being made to organise and modernise urban areas across the country through the Swachh Bharat Mission, which has successfully fostered a new culture of cleanliness in cities and towns.
Highlighting various central schemes, Pushkar Singh Dhami mentioned that the AMRUT Yojana is significantly improving water supply, sewerage systems, and green spaces, while the Smart City Mission is tailoring urban environments to meet future needs and the PM Awas Yojana is fulfilling the housing dreams of millions of underprivileged families. The CM asserted that the state government remains dedicated to the holistic growth of Uttarakhand by strengthening infrastructure, education, and healthcare services while creating fresh employment opportunities for the youth. He claimed that continuous efforts are being made to make Dehradun a clean, beautiful, and sophisticated city through improved solid waste management and the implementation of initiatives such as the PM SVANidhi scheme, ODF campaigns, and legacy waste management. Furthermore, Urban Health and Wellness Centres have been established to provide residents with superior medical facilities.
Dhami also reminded that various development projects worth over Rs 1400 crores are currently being executed on a massive scale to modernise Dehradun, including the construction of modern mechanised transfer stations for waste management and the establishment of an Integrated Command and Control Centre for the real-time monitoring of garbage collection vehicles. To promote a greener and healthier environment, 35 parks have been built across the city, including the largest yoga-themed park in Kedarpuram and special memorial parks dedicated to brave martyrs that have added over 50,000 square metres of green cover. He also asserted that water conservation is being addressed through the creation of recharge pits at identified waterlogging sites, and environmental protection is being bolstered by the operation of 30 electric buses and the installation of charging stations at 11 locations for private electric vehicles. These sustained efforts have resulted in Dehradun securing the 19th position nationwide in the Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan under the National Clean Air Programme.
The CM also announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will soon inaugurate the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, which will significantly reduce travel time and enhance connectivity. To meet the resulting challenges, the government is focusing on developing parking facilities, drinking water supply, and other essential amenities, with the ultimate goal of placing Dehradun among the cleanest cities in India. Plans are also being finalised for the construction of elevated roads over the Rispana and Bindal rivers to alleviate traffic congestion in the city. Commending the performance of the Dehradun Municipal Corporation (Doon Nagar Nigam) over the past year, the CM mentioned a remarkable 40 per cent increase in revenue collection, which rose from approximately Rs 52 crores to Rs 73 crores, alongside an expansion of the door-to-door waste collection fleet from 200 to nearly 300 vehicles. He also reiterated the government’s resolve to prevent the encroachment of public land and he called upon the municipal officials and representatives to remain vigilant in protecting government property while calling upon the public to unite in the mission to build a clean and modern Dehradun.
Among those present on the occasion were: Cabinet Minister in charge of Dehradun district, Subodh Uniyal, Cabinet Ministers Ram Singh Kaira, Khajan Das, Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal and several local MLAs including Umesh Sharma Kau, Savita Kapoor, Sahdev Singh Pundir, and Municipal Commissioner Namami Bansal.
