PIONEEREDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami will inaugurate 13 long range emergency sirens installed at various locations in Dehradun on Saturday. The launch will take place at 6 PM from the Dalanwala police station. All sirens will be activated simultaneously through remote control and their sound will be heard across the city. Authorities have informed residents in advance to avoid panic, the Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal said. He said that the sirens are meant to alert people during emergencies and can cover a distance of eight to 16 kilometres depending on their location. The first phase includes four sirens of 16-kilometre range at police stations in Rishikesh, Premnagar, Clement Town and Raipur and nine sirens of eight-kilometre range at police stations and outposts in Dalanwala, Paltan Bazaar, Rajpur, Patelnagar, Nehru Colony, Cantonment, Vasant Vihar, Bindal and Police Line. A second phase will extend the system to other areas including Vikasnagar, Doiwala and Chakrata, he added. The CM will also inaugurate development projects at Clock Tower. These include the beautification of the landmark under the Smart City project, four Hilans canteens at the collectorate, Deen Dayal Upadhyay district hospital, Gucchupani and ISBT and an initiative to move children from begging to education. Bansal stated that the administration has developed Clock Tower with gardens, fountains and lighting to preserve its traditional character while making it more accessible. The Hilans outlets are being operated through self-help groups, providing local food products, handicrafts and employment opportunities. Also, 56 children have been shifted from begging to schools under the rehabilitation programme so far. The DM and senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh reviewed preparations at Dalanwala and Clock Tower on Friday along with officials from various departments.
