Dehradun, 10 Dec: The Delhi–Dehradun Expressway, one of the most ambitious road infrastructure projects in North India, is now expected to be completed by January 2026, according to information placed before Parliament. The revised timeline has been confirmed by the Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, in response to an unstarred question raised by BJP State President and Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Bhatt during the ongoing session. Gadkari informed the House that work on the 210-kilometre, six-lane access-controlled corridor is nearing its final stage, with only a 70-metre stretch of the service road between Akshardham and the Eastern Peripheral Expressway Junction remaining stalled owing to a pending court case. Apart from this disputed patch, all other segments of the expressway are progressing towards completion.

The revised deadline emerged alongside the details provided to the Rajya Sabha on central life and accident insurance schemes, which revealed that Uttarakhand has received substantial financial support under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana. These details were sought by State President and Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Bhatt. Responding to his query, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary stated that aid totalling Rs 132.12 crores has been disbursed under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana against 6,606 settled claims until 26 November. Under the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, assistance amounting to Rs 22.62 crore has been provided for 1,131 claims. Together, the central insurance schemes have extended support exceeding Rs 150 crores to beneficiaries across Uttarakhand.
While the Centre has claimed that the Delhi Dehradun Expressway will be completed in January, 2026 but it is still not clear whether it will be inaugurated in January itself or whether the inauguration and the formal opening will extend beyond January.
