Nainital, 18 Dec: Uttarakhand is continuing to witness serious road accidents and the loss of lives. Yet another horrific road accident has been reported from near Kainchi Dham in the district when a car skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge. Three persons lost their lives in the mishap, while six others sustained injuries. It is reported that the occupants of the car were residents of Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, and were en route to Kainchi Dham for a pilgrimage. While on their way, their vehicle went out of control and plunged into the ravine.
The devotees from Bareilly were travelling to seek blessings at Kainchi Dham when their Scorpio car lost control near Niglat, approximately 3 kilometres from Bhowali, and fell into the gorge. The sound of the vehicle crashing was heard by local residents, who immediately rushed to the accident site, leaving their work behind. Simultaneously, the locals informed the police and administration about the tragedy.
The car fell into a gorge nearly 50 feet deep. Local residents reached the spot even before the police and rescue teams arrived, initiating rescue operations at their own level. Shortly after, teams from the Police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) reached the scene. The SDRF extricated the occupants from the vehicle. Retrieving the victims from the 50-foot-deep gorge to the road above proved to be an arduous task. With the assistance of the villagers, the SDRF managed to bring the injured up to the road.
Following the rescue, the victims were immediately rushed to the nearest Community Health Centre (CHC). Here the doctors declared three persons dead on arrival, including two women and a child. Six others are currently injured. The police have informed the family members of the accident victims.
SI, SDRF, Bhawna stated that nine people from Bareilly were travelling in the car to Kainchi Dham when the accident occurred. She confirmed the three fatalities and noted that the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination after completing the necessary legal formalities.
Nainital Police have released the details of the injured and the deceased involved in the accident. The list of those injured includes Rishi Patel, son of Rahul Patel, aged 7 years; Swati, daughter of Bhup Ram, aged 20 years; Akshay, son of Umendra Singh, aged 20 years; Jyoti, wife of Karan, aged 25 years; Karan, son of Jitendra, aged 25 years; and Rahul Patel, son of Bhupram, aged 35 years. The deceased have been identified as Ganga Devi, wife of Bhup Ram, aged 56 years; Brijesh Kumari, wife of Rahul Patel, aged 26 years; and Nainasti Gangwar, daughter of Jaipal Singh, aged 24 years. According to the Police and SDRF, all the victims are residents of Bareilly.
