Sunday, 28 July 2024 | my uttarakhand news | DEHRADUN Requests freehand in setting up of small hydropower projects & grant of 24 % capital subsidy in hydropower power plants Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has requested that the State should be allowed to approve the hydropower projects of up to 25 MW capacity. He said that the Himalayan States should also be given the benefit of 24 per cent capital subsidy in construction of the small power projects. Dhami participated in the meeting of the NITI Aayog chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Saturday. Addressing the meeting Dhami said that Uttarakhand is working in the direction of fulfilling the goal of Viksit Bharat of PM Modi. The CM said that in the eighth meeting of NITI Aayog held last year, some proposals related to the development of Himalayan states were put forward. He requested that specific policies in the context of Himalayan states should be made on the proposals of last year’s meeting. He said Uttarakhand is a very sensitive state in terms of disaster. The CM thanked PM Modi for making special financial provision in this year’s Union Budget for disaster mitigation. He said that the State has secured the first position in the recently released Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Index ranking. Dhami said that the Uttarakhand assembly has passed the ‘Uniform Civil Code’ bill. The CM said that in view of the drinking water crisis in many parts of the country Uttarakhand has constituted a Spring and River Rejuvenation Authority (SARA). This authority will work for water conservation, reviving water sources and connecting snow fed rivers with other rivers. He requested that the Union government should provide special financial assistance and technical support for SARA. The CM highlighted the need for encouraging entrepreneurship in rural areas. He said that two rural incubation centres and 110 growth centres have been established in Uttarakhand as a pilot project. Dhami also requested that the lift irrigation projects should be included in the ‘PM Krishi Sinchai Yojana’. Dhami said that the Uttarakhand government is focusing on sustainable development and balance between ecology and economy. The issuance of Gross Environmental Product (GEP) index on the lines of GDP has been started in the state.
