Dehradun, 24 Jan: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami flagged off the ‘Bal Vivah Mukti Rath’ (Child Marriage Eradication Chariot) from the CM’s residence here today, marking the beginning of a concerted campaign against child marriage in Dehradun. The initiative is being carried out by the Samarpan Society for Health Research and Development with the aim of spreading awareness and mobilising communities to eradicate this social evil.
Addressing the gathering, Dhami said the chariot would serve as a vehicle of public awareness, designed to reach remote, rural and high-risk areas with a strong and effective message against child marriage. He stressed that the campaign’s purpose was to ensure timely and intensive communication with the masses, thereby strengthening collective resolve to eliminate the practice.
This campaign will run from 24 January to 8 March 2026, during which a series of activities including street plays, dialogue sessions, oath-taking programmes, counselling camps, distribution of Information, education and communication materials and direct public interactions will be organised. These will take place across villages, urban settlements, schools, panchayats, Anganwadi centres and other community sites to ensure wide outreach and participation.
Among those present on the occasion included Chairperson of the Uttarakhand Child Rights Protection Commission Dr Geeta Khanna, President of Samarpan Society Vipin Panwar along with several other dignitaries and social workers.
