Haridwar, 16 Mar: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today visited Haridwar to review the progress of preparations for Kumbh Mela 2027 and also chaired a review meeting in this respect at Dam Kothi. During the meeting, he directed the officials to ensure that all the necessary arrangements for the grand and spiritually uplifting Kumbh Mela to be held next year are completed within stipulated timelines. The CM stressed that in a mega event like Kumbh there should be no shortcomings at any level and all the related departments must work with full capacity, better coordination and strict adherence to deadlines. He stated that with the cooperation of all stakeholders associated with the fair, including religious and social organisations and saints, a grand and well-organised Kumbh Mela will be ensured. Dhami made it clear that there will be no shortage of funds for Kumbh-related works and that necessary approvals for proposed projects will be issued expeditiously, and in this regard he spoke to the Chief Secretary over telephone during the meeting and instructed that required action be taken promptly at the government level.
Reviewing the progress of permanent works related to roads, bridges, drinking water, health, traffic and parking, Dhami directed that quality and timeliness must be ensured in all projects. He added that keeping in view the forthcoming Char Dham Yatra, monsoon season and Kanwar Yatra, a strategy should be drawn up for implementation of all major works and departments should continue to function with better coordination. Reviewing plans related to security arrangements during the Kumbh Mela, he directed that establishment of a modern Integrated Control and Command Centre equipped with advanced technologies and facilities be accorded top priority and said that necessary approvals for this would be issued soon. He also reviewed the proposed CCR-2 building project near the Mela Control Building, terming it important for smooth management of the Kumbh Mela and stating that it too would receive financial sanction at the earliest. To facilitate smooth movement of pilgrims, Dhami instructed that schemes related to Kharkhari bridge and Shriyatra bridge be prioritised and necessary approvals for these also be issued soon.
The CM also asserted that special attention be paid to strengthening basic amenities, security arrangements, cleanliness and sewerage management in all sectors of the Kumbh area, including Rishikesh and Muni ki Reti. Issuing directions for expansion of the Damkothi guest house in Haridwar, he said that a plan should be prepared and submitted for construction of a modern and aesthetically designed guest house in the area adjoining the existing building. During the meeting, Mela Officer Sonika gave a detailed presentation on arrangements related to preparations for Kumbh Mela 2027 and informed that 33 permanent schemes related to construction of roads, bridges and ghats, as well as water supply, medical facilities, security and fair management, are currently under construction and all projects are progressing in line with the prescribed timelines.
Those present at the meeting included Haridwar District Panchayat Chairperson Kiran Chaudhary, Haridwar Mayor Kiran Jaisal, Roorkee Mayor Anita Agarwal, Haridwar MLA Madan Kaushik, Ranipur MLA Adesh Chauhan, Roorkee MLA Pradeep Batra, former minister Swami Yatishwaranand, BJP district president Ashutosh Sharma, Desharaj Karnwal, Shobharam Prajapati, Sunil Saini, Om Prakash Jamdagni, Jaipal Singh Chauhan, former mayor Manoj Garg, District Magistrate Mayur Dikshit, SSP Navneet Singh Bhullar, CDO Lalit Narayan Mishra, Additional Mela Officer Dayanand Saraswati, HRDA Secretary Manish Kumar and a large number of public representatives.
