Dhami stresses on on giving ‘local to global’ identity to traditional jewellery – myuttarakhandnews.com | Uttarakhand News in English | Dehradun News Today| News Uttarakhand | Uttarakhand latest news

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that traditional jewellery of Uttarakhand needs to be recognised on the national and global stage. He said this while visiting an exhibition organised by the Sarafa Mandal Dehradun here on Sunday. Dhami said that such events are an important way to promote Indian art, culture, tradition, and local skills. The goldsmith community not only creates jewellery, but also plays an important role in preserving and passing on India’s glorious traditions and cultural heritage from generation to generation. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, through initiatives like “Vocal for Local,” “Make in India,” “Made in India,” and “Startup India,” the country’s artisans, local products and indigenous skills are gaining new recognition and new opportunities. In line with the goal of “Developed India 2047,” consistent efforts are being made to make India a major hub for global jewellery manufacturing and designing. The CM further said that the Uttarakhand government is committed to encouraging traditional skills, handicrafts and local artisans, as well as empowering them through skill development and financial assistance. He added that Uttarakhand’s rich traditional jewellery—Garhwali Nath, Paunji, Champakali necklace, Kumaoni Gulobaand, Pichaura necklace, Jhumka and other such items—needs to be recognised on the national and global stage. He said that the goal of “local to global” can be achieved by evolving traditional designs to suit modern needs and changing times. This will create new employment and self-employment opportunities for local artisans and goldsmiths in Uttarakhand, and the younger generation will also be able to connect more closely with their rich culture and traditions. Dhami said that the state government is committed to preserving traditional jewellery and developing the skills of the goldsmith community. Effective steps will be taken to advance the goldsmiths and artisans by formulating the necessary plans in this direction. Stating that the government is working with an “unwavering resolve” to make Uttarakhand the “best State” in the country, he called for the active cooperation and participation of the goldsmith community in realising this resolve.
