DM Bansal extends financial relief to distressed divyang family

Dehradun, 21 May: In a sensitive and humanitarian intervention under the guidance of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Dehradun district administration has once again demonstrated its commitment towards supporting poor, helpless and needy families by extending major financial relief to a severely distressed Divyang family residing in East Patel Nagar. Acting promptly on the plea of 100 per cent Divyang Sanjeev Kumar, District Magistrate Savin Bansal directed that the outstanding loan amount of Rs 64,915 be deposited through CSR funds, bringing much-needed relief to the family struggling with extreme financial hardship.
The district administration also extended a helping hand towards the family’s livelihood by providing financial assistance of Rs 25,000 from the Rifle Club fund to support employment generation. Sanjeev Kumar, a 100 per cent Divyang father of three young daughters, and his wife, who is 65 per cent Divyang, had been living in acute distress under the burden of debt with extremely limited means of survival.
According to officials, Sanjeev Kumar had taken a loan of Rs 50,000 in 2018 from the Uttarakhand Multipurpose Finance and Development Corporation, Dehradun, for opening a mobile repairing shop. During the initial phase, he regularly deposited nearly 15 to 20 instalments. However, in 2020, the Covid pandemic and subsequent lockdown completely destroyed his business, leaving him unable to continue repayment of the remaining instalments.
Following default in repayment, a recovery certificate amounting to Rs 64,915 was issued by the corporation and sent to the Dehradun tehsil for further action. The Divyang couple was surviving only on a monthly pension of Rs 3,000 and was finding it increasingly difficult to support the family. The financial condition of the household had deteriorated to such an extent that even the education of their daughters was being adversely affected.
Sanjeev Kumar approached the DM and informed him that revenue officials had allegedly threatened to send him to jail over non-payment of the dues, leaving the family in fear and severe mental distress. Taking serious note of the humanitarian aspect of the case, the District Magistrate immediately intervened and instructed the concerned officials to arrange payment of the outstanding loan amount through the CSR fund so that the recovery proceedings could be withdrawn and the family could get relief from the mounting pressure.
The administration did not limit its intervention to immediate financial assistance alone, but also initiated steps to secure the future of the family. The DM also directed the District Programme Officer, Child Development, to examine the case of Sanjeev Kumar’s three daughters and ensure that assistance under Project Nanda-Sunanda is provided at the earliest so that their education continues without interruption.
The officials stated that the prompt and compassionate action of the district administration has provided fresh hope and support to a family that had exhausted all avenues before approaching the DM’s office. The administration reiterated that its responsibilities extend beyond routine governance and that it remains committed to reaching relief and support to the last person in society.
The DM also directed officials to deal with such cases received during public hearings with sensitivity and priority so that no genuinely needy person is deprived of assistance.
