Dehradun, 23 Dec: District Magistrate Savin Bansal today carried out a field inspection of the Dehradun Nagar Nigam) night shelter at Lalpul to assess the arrangements in place. During the visit, he examined the basic facilities available and instructed the officials concerned to ensure that all necessary provisions are properly maintained. While reviewing the daily occupancy of destitute individuals at the shelter, he was informed that around 15 to 19 homeless people have been seeking refuge there each night over the past week. He directed the staff to maintain regular cleanliness within the premises and provide a hygienic environment for the occupants.
The DM issued further directives to ensure that all the night shelters across the city are equipped with functional toilets, drinking water, adequate lighting, bedding, and other essential amenities, stressing that no negligence regarding sanitation will be tolerated. In view of the ongoing cold wave, he mandated that destitute and helpless individuals be safely accommodated in these shelters and that proper arrangements for bonfires be ensured at identified public locations throughout the city. He remarked that the safety and comfort of the destitute during the winter season remain a top priority for the administration and called for seamless coordination among all departments to achieve this objective.
The DM was accompanied by Municipal Commissioner Namami Bansal, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Sadar Harigiri, and other official during the inspection.
