Drishti Eye Institute launches most advanced Retina Imaging System in Doon

my uttarakhand news Bureau
Dehradun, 16 Feb: Drishti Eye Institute marked a significant milestone in advanced eye care with the inauguration of the Intalight DREAM OCT, one of the world’s most advanced retina imaging systems. The new technology was formally inaugurated today at the institute in the presence of international guests and medical professionals.
The ceremony was officiated over by Dr Rupesh Agrawal, a prolific researcher of international repute and Senior Consultant at the National Healthcare Group Eye Institute, Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Singapore. A globally respected retina, uveitis and ocular trauma specialist, Dr Agrawal highlighted the importance of advanced imaging in early detection and precise diagnosis of eye diseases.
On this occasion, a Continuing Medical Education (CME) session was also held, featuring Dr Rupesh Agrawal’s special lecture on advancements in retinal imaging and uveitis management. The session was attended by ophthalmologists and medical professionals, and the insights shared are expected to be a game changer in improving the management of retinal disorders and uveitis.
The newly installed Intalight DREAM OCT enables clinicians to see deeper into the eye with greater clarity, speed, and precision, often before symptoms appear. The system is designed to detect problems early, clearly, and comfortably, making it especially beneficial for patients with diabetes, age-related macular degeneration, and other retinal and vision-threatening conditions.
With this addition, Drishti Eye Institute becomes one of the only five centres in India to house this advanced technology and the first in the northern region of the country. Patients from distant locations are expected to benefit from access to this cutting-edge diagnostic facility. The system allows for a complete eye evaluation in a single advanced scan, offering faster diagnosis and improved patient outcomes.
Drishti Retina Services, headed by Dr Saurabh Luthra, comprises a team of four super-specialist retina doctors. The institute also runs a dedicated retina fellowship programme, currently training two fellows, further strengthening its commitment to advanced education and specialised eye care.
The retina department is actively using advanced technologies such as 3D visualisation systems and Intraoperative OCT to optimise visual outcomes in vitreoretinal surgeries. These innovations enhance surgical precision and safety, contributing to better results for patients undergoing complex retinal procedures.
In addition to the new installation, the institute is equipped with state-of-the-art retinal imaging systems, including the Optos ultra-widefield fundus camera and Heidelberg fundus fluorescein angiography. These technologies allow doctors to capture detailed, wide-angle images of the retina and assess blood flow in retinal vessels, enabling accurate diagnosis and monitoring of various retinal and vascular eye diseases.
Speaking at the event, Dr Rupesh Agrawal appreciated the institute’s commitment to bringing world-class technology to Dehradun. The installation reinforces Drishti Eye Institute’s mission to provide cutting-edge eye care and comprehensive disease management for patients across the region.
The Intalight DREAM OCT is now fully operational at Drishti Eye Institute, offering patients access to some of the most advanced retinal imaging available today.
