PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun Congress veteran and former chief minister Harish Rawat was questioned by Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Dehradun in connection with a money laundering case following alleged irregularities in the VPDO examination conducted by the Uttarakhand Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UKSSC) in 2016. Rawat remained inside the ED office for about five hours. The former CM entered the office of ED while carrying a picture of his mother. Braving rains, a large number of supporters of Harish Rawat gathered outside the ED office while the former CM was being questioned. After coming out of the office, Rawat blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party government for acting in a vindictive manner. He said that the government working in a vindictive manner does not augur well for the country and the society. “ It is not the ED which summoned me but it is a summon given by the government, the arrogance of the power and the concerns for the upcoming elections. I want to thank the government and the ED for calling me here in Dehradun and standing beside the State Congress president, otherwise I would have remained for some more time in Delhi due to my poor health. Appropriate response will be given,’’ he said. On September 10, the ED raided the house of Chandan Singh Jeena who was the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) when Rawat was the CM of the State. The ED recovered Rs 32 lakh in cash, 13 gold coins, seven gold chains and expensive watches in the raid conducted in connection with the VPDO examination conducted by the UKSSSC in the year 2016. Following the ED raid, Rawat tried to take a high moral ground by resigning from the positions held by him in the Congress Working Committee and the Pradesh Congress Committee.
