Dehradun, 10 May: The ‘All India Educational Movement’ organised a seminar on “Peace and Education” at Tasmia Academy, here, on Saturday. The event featured detailed discussions on the current state of education, the growing moral decline within society, family values, and human ethics. Speakers asserted that the sole objective of education should not be merely to acquire academic degrees and lucrative job packages; rather, education should be of a nature that fosters better human beings and builds a responsible society.
The programme was presided over by Dr S Farooq, Patron of the All India Educational Movement, while the proceedings were anchored by National General Secretary Abdul Rashid. Syed Mohammad Yasir, Director, Indian Cambridge School, delivered the welcome address and extended his greetings to the guests.
Khwaja M Shahid, President of the All India Educational Movement, stated that, today, the yardstick for the success of educational institutions has been reduced solely to securing high-paying job packages and employment opportunities. While the scope of education has undoubtedly expanded, the values of peace, brotherhood, and humanity within society have simultaneously weakened.
Dr S Farooq said that respect for parents is diminishing, the duties due to neighbours are being neglected, and a growing distance is emerging in social relations. There is an urgent need to devise an educational system—guided by the ethics and life of Prophet Muhammad—that is capable of fostering a civilised and responsible society.
Chief Guest Col MK Hussain (Retd) emphasised that true and lasting peace within the nation and society can only be established when the character of society is refined and uplifted through the cultivation of virtuous conduct.
Mufti Abdul Khaliq, President of Idara Ilm-o-Khidmat, remarked that while education is indeed being prioritised in today’s world, the equally vital aspects of ethics and moral upbringing are unfortunately being overlooked. The unfortunate consequence of this is that, even after their sons have risen to become high-ranking officials, parents are often compelled to live in old-age homes.
Prof Yahya Anjum of Jamia Hamdard University said that Prophet Muhammad first exemplified these principles in his own life before imparting moral guidance to society. He added that the Seerah (biography of the Prophet) conveys a message of humanity, compassion, and exemplary conduct throughout his entire life.
Other speakers including Mamdoha Majid & Mufti Saleem also expressed their views.
Ilyas Saifi proposed the vote of thanks.
