By Sunil Sonker Mussoorie, 5 Jan: The municipal administration here has geared up to beautify the Mall Road, considered the pride of Mussoorie. Under the continuous campaign being run by the municipal administration, the footpath that had been on Mall Road for years has recently been completely removed, and the street vendors have been shifted to vendor zones created in other locations so that their livelihoods are not affected. However, after the removal of the footpath, a new problem has arisen on Mall Road. Illegal parking of vehicles has started along the roadside, which is not only disrupting traffic but also affecting the beauty of Mall Road. The municipal administration is continuously taking action to deal with this problem.Local residents say that removing the footpath from Mall Road is a welcome step, but it is unfortunate if vehicles start parking in the same place. They have demanded that the municipality should formulate a clear and strict policy so that vehicles cannot be parked on Mall Road under any circumstances. Local citizens have also alleged that many hotel operators allow tourists staying in their hotels to park their vehicles on Mall Road in the evenings. This not only creates traffic jams but also causes inconvenience to ordinary pedestrians and tourists. People have demanded that, in such cases, not only should the vehicles be fined, but the licences of the concerned hotels should also be cancelled, so that no hotel can use Mall Road as a parking lot in the future.In this regard, the Executive Officer of the municipality, Gaurav Bhasin, said that in compliance with the instructions of the Municipal Chairperson Meera Saklani, continuous work is being done to make Mall Road well-organised and attractive. He said that municipal teams are regularly patrolling Mall Road and vehicles parked along the roadside are being fined. Along with this, the action is being made more effective with the cooperation of the police. He stated that, in the future, as part of the beautification project along Mall Road, antique lights, seating arrangements, and other attractive structures will be installed to further enhance the beauty of the road. The executive officer issued a stern warning, stating that strict action will be taken against any vehicle found parked on Mall Road. Hotels that turn Mall Road into a parking area in the evenings are also being identified. Strict action will be taken against such hotels as per the instructions of higher authorities.With this strict approach by the municipal administration, it is hoped that in the coming days, Mussoorie’s Mall Road will not only be free from illegal encroachment and parking but will also become even more attractive and convenient for tourists.
