Gairsain, 13 Mar: Claiming continued zero tolerance policy towards corruption, the entire staff posted at the Iqbalpur police chowki in Haridwar district has been suspended with immediate effect on Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s orders. The action comes in the wake of an audio clip that had gone viral on social media which is allegedly related to illegal mining activities.
The government has claimed that this strict action has been taken under its zero-tolerance policy towards corruption in the state. According to information received, the step was initiated after the role of certain police personnel posted in the Iqbalpur area was found to be suspicious in connection with illegal mining.
Taking serious note of the matter, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Haridwar, Navneet Singh Bhullar ordered immediate suspension of the entire outpost staff, including the chowki (Outpost) in-charge. In all, six police personnel have been placed under suspension while a detailed inquiry into the matter has been entrusted to the SP-Rural.
Those suspended include Sub-Inspector (SI) Naveen Singh Chauhan, posted as Iqbalpur chowki in-charge, besides others including Head Constable Virendra Sharma, Head Constable Harendra, Constable Vipin Kumar, Constable Devesh Singh and Constable Pradeep.
Commenting on the development, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today asserted that illegal mining, corruption or any form of irregularity will not be tolerated in the state under any circumstances. He said that those entrusted with the responsibility of maintaining law and order would face strict action if found negligent in their duties or involved in any improper activities.
The Chief Minister has also directed the authorities to ensure a fair and expeditious inquiry into the matter and to take stringent legal action against anyone found guilty.
