Dehradun, 7 Jul: To mark ‘Van Mahotsav Week,’ observed nationwide from 1 to 7 July, the 127 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) Ecological—part of the Garhwal Rifles and known as the “Garhwal Greeners”—successfully organised numerous programmes focused on environmental conservation and public awareness across various regions of Uttarakhand.
Throughout this week-long campaign, the unit conducted large-scale tree plantation drives, river rejuvenation projects, water and soil conservation initiatives, cleanliness drives, and public awareness programmes centered on environmental protection. Local administration, the Forest Department, educational institutions, voluntary organisations, and local citizens participated enthusiastically in these activities.
The 127 Infantry Battalion (TA) Ecological, Garhwal Rifles, reaffirmed its commitment to environmental conservation by intensifying plantation and preservation activities in its designated areas. Sustained efforts by the unit over the years have resulted in the planting of over 30 million saplings and the rejuvenation of thousands of hectares of forest land, contributing significantly to strengthening Uttarakhand’s green cover.
During the events organised as part of ‘Van Mahotsav’ week, participants were sensitised not only to tree plantation but also to the conservation of saplings, the enhancement of water sources, and the maintenance of ecological balance. On this occasion, all participants pledged to transform nature conservation into a mass movement and to nurture every sapling planted.
The 127 Infantry Battalion (TA) Ecological, Garhwal Rifles, expressed gratitude to all the departments, organisations, and local citizens who contributed to the success of this campaign and reiterated its resolve to continue such environmental conservation initiatives in the future.
