Former MLA Gahtori who enabled Dhami to remain in office no more Saturday, 04 MAY 2024 | my uttarakhand news | DEHRADUN Uttarakhand Forest Development Corporation (UFDC) chairman and the former MLA of Champwat, Kailash Gahtori breathed his last in Dehradun on Friday. He was suffering from cancer for some time. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, for whom he had vacated his Champawat seat, the Bharatiya Janata Party and politicians across the spectrum expressed grief at his demise. Gahtori was suffering from cancer and succumbed to the disease at the Government Doon Medical College hospital here on Friday. His last rites were held in Kashipur. Dhami attended his funeral procession in Kashipur and paid his last respects to Gahtori. Expressing grief over Gahtori’s death, the chief minister said that it was a personal loss to him in addition to being an irreplaceable loss to the party and the State. Describing the UFDC chairman as his dear friend Dhami said that he was unable to express this immense pain in words. Gahtori associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and had contested his first Vidhan Sabha election in 2002 from Champawat as an independent candidate. He contested as a BJP candidate from Champawat in 2017 and won the election.He contested the election from Champawat on a BJP ticket and won. He won from the constituency as a BJP candidate again in 2022 but later gave up his seat to enable Dhami to contest the bypoll. Expressing grief at the demise of Gahtori, the BJP State president Mahendra Bhatt said that the entire BJP family is in mourning after learning of his demise. “Gahtori will always be remembered for his contribution to the party organization and the society. As a social and political activist, he dedicated his entire life to serving the public. His demise at this age is an irreparable loss to the party and the society. The BJP will always be indebted to him for his contributions. He will be remembered as an ideal public representative,” the BJP State president said.
