PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun   Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami laid the foundation stone of the Iconic City Rishikesh Rafting base station in Rishikesh on Friday. The station will be constructed under the first phase of the Rishikesh Ganga Corridor project.  The Rafting Base station will be constructed between Shivpuri to Muni Ki Reti with a financial assistance of Rs 100 crore approved by the Government of India. The CM also laid the foundation stone for the construction of a multi-storey car parking and office building in Rishikesh. The Rs 136 crore project will have a parking capacity of 1,038 vehicles. It will also have buildings for the offices of Municipal Corporation of Rishikesh, Jal Sansthan and UPCL.  Speaking on the occasion, the CM said that the Rafting Base Station will increase employment opportunities for the local people.  He claimed that the government has moved one step closer towards establishing Rishikesh as a global hub of river rafting. Along with the rafting base station, a place for tourists and a boardwalk on the river bank will also be constructed. Dhami said that along with developing a system of real time monitoring of rafting routes for the safety of tourists, CCTV cameras, SOS alarms and emergency help stations will also be installed.  The CM said that the multi-storey parking facility will solve the problem of traffic jams in Rishikesh especially during the Char Dham Yatra to a great extent. He said that along with the expansion of road, rail and air connectivity, work is being done for strengthening the infrastructure in the State. The Char Dham Road Project and Rishikesh – Karnprayag Rail Project will prove to be a milestone in the development of the State. Dhami said that infrastructure facilities in Rishikesh are being improved with a budget of Rs 1600 crores.  He said that with world class facilities for rafting, better ropeway facilities and shuttle services, Rishikesh will attract more tourists in the coming times.  The CM suggested that rafters should come together once in a year and raft in the Ganga river with the national flag. Cabinet minister Subodh Uniyal, MLAs Premchand Aggarwal and Renu Bisht, mayor of Rishikesh Shambhu Paswan, principal secretary R Meenakshi Sundaram, Garhwal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey and other officers were present on the occasion.
