my uttarakhand news Bureau
Dehradun, 4 Feb: In response to a question raised in Parliament by Haridwar MP and former Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat regarding the installation of rooftop solar systems under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana in Uttarakhand—especially in Haridwar district—the actual benefits received, difficulties faced by beneficiaries, and effective implementation of the scheme, Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy and Power Shripad Yesso Naik has shared details of the scheme’s extensive progress in a written reply.
According to the written reply by the Union Minister of State, since the launch of the scheme in February 2024 up to 30 January 2026, a total of 63,241 rooftop solar systems have been installed in Uttarakhand, directly benefiting 63,403 families. During this period, the state has received central financial assistance amounting to Rs 490.84 crore. As per the Energy Department, by October 2025, more than 27,295 beneficiaries across the state, including Haridwar district, have received zero electricity bills, clearly reflecting the direct and tangible benefits of the scheme.
The written reply further clarified that to simplify and accelerate implementation of the scheme, the requirement of technical feasibility approval has been removed, automatic load enhancement up to 10 kW has been enabled, and the net-metering process has been made digital and user-friendly. Additionally, effective implementation is being ensured through end-to-end online registration, direct subsidy transfer to beneficiaries’ bank accounts, collateral-free loan facilities, simplified vendor registration, training and public awareness campaigns, a 15555 call centre operating in 12 languages, and continuous coordination between the Ministry and DISCOMs.
On this occasion, MP Trivendra Singh Rawat stated that the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is a historic and people-centric initiative that is steering Uttarakhand towards clean energy, energy self-reliance and environmental conservation. On behalf of the people of Uttarakhand, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his visionary leadership and to the Central Government for its strong policy initiatives, expressing confidence that this scheme will establish the state as a leader in the field of green energy.
