Fugitive arrested after 25 years in Chamoli Himigiri Plantation scam

my uttarakhand news BureauDehradun, 16 Dec: Chamoli police have arrested a fugitive who had been absconding for 25 years in the Himigiri Plantation scam case. The accused is wanted in connection with defrauding the public of lakhs of rupees by promising to double their investments. He was apprehended yesterday from Fata in Rudraprayag district. The Police sources have shared that a case of serious fraud was registered at Gopeshwar Police Station in 2001 on a complaint by Shiv Prasad, a resident of Kalimath in Rudraprayag district. The complaint had alleged that Ravindra Mohan, son of Sher Singh Rana, and his brother Rakesh Mohan, both residents of Jamu village under Guptkashi Police Station in Rudraprayag district, had set up a company called Himigiri Plantation in 1993.The brothers had allegedly lured a large number of people into investing with promises of doubling their money within a short period along with attractive interest rates. However, later they had fled with lakhs of rupees in 2001, prompting the registration of cases at Gopeshwar Police Station under crime numbers 268/2001 and 269/2001, invoking Sections 406 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).The court had also declared both the brothers as absconders and had issued permanent non-bailable warrants against them. A reward of Rs 5,000 was also announced for information leading to Ravindra Mohan’s arrest. Following the directives from SP Chamoli, Surjeet Singh Panwar, a special team under Sub-Inspector Satendra Butola ramped up efforts using technical surveillance, various records, nationwide databases and the NATGRID platform.Investigations uncovered an address in Delhi linked to Ravindra Mohan, leading to police teams being sent to Delhi and Noida for verification. After sustained efforts, officers nabbed him in Fata as he was travelling towards his native area. The arrested accused was produced before the court in accordance with procedure.Police operations continue intensively to apprehend the other prime suspect, Rakesh Mohan, who remains at large.
